What is a belt vulcanizer?

There are two types of vulcanising processes, hot and cold. Each process requires unique tools and an intimate knowledge of the rubber bonding process.Hot vulcanisation splices are heated and cured under pressure with a vulcanising press.

The process of hot vulcanising involves using a heated press to splice in a new section of rubber. A hot vulcanised joint will be stronger and longer lasting than those formed by other methods. Belts that have had vulcanised repairs are easier to keep clean as there are no gaps or holes for bacteria to establish in.

Cold vulcanisation does not use a press, but uses a bonding agent that causes a chemical reaction to splice the two belt ends together. This chemical reaction ensures that cross-connections between different monomer chains are created. This splices the two ends of the belt together.

Hot and cold splicing of belts require meticulous preparation to prevent contamination of the splicing area. Cold splicing requires relatively warm conditions and low moisture to ensure the cold vulcanizing cements work optimally.

We do not recommend cold bonding in most instances as we see a large amount of cold bond joints that have prematurely failed.
